Heater Safety for Fiberglass Pools and Spas

So, although it’s a little chilly out (well, in most places, here in Georgia it’s been in the 60’s!!) it’s still possible to be swimming in your Tallman Fiberglass Pool if you have a heater! In fact, for some, their favorite season to use their pool is in the fall and winter. Being able to relax or exercise in a warm pool on a cold winter’s day is a real treat! And, of course, having a heated spa on your pool is a marvelous addition that can be enjoyed year round as well.

However, even though having a spa or a heated pool is great, there are several things that you want to keep in mind once your pool or spa and heater are installed to keep your family safe.
  1. Most heaters have an internal safety system that helps prevent gas leakages or other mechanical failures. It is a good idea to take advantage of these features and test your system every year before starting it up. Just use your manual as a guide.
  2. You should also never just assume that since your heater worked fine at the end of last season that it’s ready to go this season. It’s recommended that you have a certified technician check your unit’s gas lines, wires and gauges to ensure that everything is working properly.
  3. It is EXTREMELY important to store chemicals away from the heater. Having the chemicals stored around the heater could lead to accidental combustion and/or a chemical fire.
With those safety tips in mind, you can safely enjoy your heated pool and spa! And, if you don’t yet have a Tallman Fiberglass Pool, don’t hesitate to give us a call!
